If you are traveling in a group of 2-4 people, it is much more economical to split the fare of a rental car than to pay for numerous bus, plane, train, taxi, or boat fares & fees. Having your own vehicle allows you the opportunity to explore Iran as you desire, making stops whenever you see anything interesting along your journey. You have the chance to truly dive into local cultures and untapped landscapes.
What is driving like in Iran?
Iranians have, for the most part, made great leaps and bounds in improving their driving etiquette. Although Iran has had a terrible reputation for aggressive driving and liberal use of car horns in the past, all metropolitan areas have become much more peaceful and law-abiding. Thanks to extensive use of traffic cameras, well-maintained roads, and strict law-enforcement, Iran has become one of the safest and driver-friendliest countries in the middle east.
Are the street signs in English?
Almost all major road signs and signals, especially those regarding major destinations, throughways, & cities all have English translations on the signs. Since English is the second most common language in Iran, you will easily be able to find your way no matter where you go.
What happens if the police pull me over?
If you have been driving outside of Iran, chances are used to obeying the rules, so the chances of you getting pulled over are actually quite small. Unlike the aggressive image of Iran that is portrayed in international media, the local police are actually quite friendly and accommodating. If you happen to be pulled over by the police, all you have to do is have your documents (driver’s license, passport, rental lease agreement, vehicle specifications) ready to hand over to the officer. Let the officer know you will make a phone call and make a call to our 24 Hour Roadside Assistance. We will speak to the officer and have you on your way soon.
