Teimareh Petroglyphs – Engraved Figures
Golpayegan county is located 200 km Northwest of Isfahan. Golpayegan is famous because of its wonderful weather, delicious kebabs and several historical sites, such as Jameh mosque, Minaret of Seljuk period and Gouged Stronghold. It is said that this city was made in the Sassanid era.
A few kilometers far from Golpayegan, in the heart of the Zagros Mountains, we get to the wonderful Teimareh Petroglyphs. The engraved figures have been found in many places in Iran, but Teimareh demonstrates more than 21000 pieces. Another interesting fact is the existence of one piece of epigraphy with 150 figures on it. These figures display the story of the time that human first started hunting, domesticating animals and growing plants.
This priceless treasure dates back to more than 40000 years ago which shows humans and different animals. You can see a human hunting, lions and snakes. However what is interesting is that most of these figures are goats. It is said by the experts that goat was the symbol of happiness and liveliness at that time.
