Silent hills of Gandom Beryan make you craze to meditate all day without any disturbance. It may be the best chance to clear your mind and release yourself from daily routines. Strangely, it wasn’t as quiet as it seems today. There were 3 active volcanoes in the region which spew out lava very fiercely, but thankfully they are all silent and extinct now.
The black stones lying over the plateau have funny and weird shapes, which may look like a cat, a horse or an imaginary monster.
These rocks absorb plenty of sun rays in them. That’s one of the reasons why Gandom Beryan has got the highest land surface temperature based on the NASA’s satellite in 2004, 5, 6, 7, 9.
In summers, temperature rises up to 71°c and it is absolutely impossible to visit it and because of cold nights in winters, the best time for the tour is early autumns and late winters.
The golden sand around the basaltic rocks easily impresses you with purity of the desert. Near this area, you can see some salt stones shaped like an egg which are shining remarkably in the sun and yes, this is actually a sign. You’re getting close to a salty river. When the water vapors, salt remains. So you can enjoy watching white salt along and inside the river path but tread carefully and never step on them because it can be like a swamp and not steady.
Walking in the deserted Lut, makes you wonder how lonely and calm it is, but suddenly you face lots of towers that you may suppose are built by fairies. These structures are actually called Kaluts. It takes thousands of years that Kaluts are formed by the cooperation of soil, water, and wind, the result is such a marvelous construction.
As you go further, some astonishing flowerpots carrying plants grab your attention. Who has made these in the middle of the desert?! These are called Nabkas. Due to their wetness, some sand particles stick to the bottom of the plants and this is how Nebkas are created. In Lut, you can find 10-meter Nabkas, while their height is only 3 meters in Sahara.
Accommodation is available inside fantastic huts in Shahdad town. These dome-shaped huts are humble as the desert itself. I am sure it could be a once in a lifetime experience to let yourself indulge at the marvels, this region has to offer. Tell us when can we be your hosts?
