Prince of Persia is a famous video game franchise firstly designed and developed by Jordan Mechner for the Apple II in 1989. Jordan Mechner is a famous American video game designer, Author and screenwriter who has recently written a successful graphic novel called “Templar”.
Having created some of the most important games specially Prince of Persia, Jordan Mechner remains as an important part of video game industry.This game combines arcade action with realistic animation and cinematic storytelling.
It became the 1st best sellers game in America. After a while in the 90s, it was nearly ported for every computer. He is a huge fan of Iran’s great history and literature. Therefore he designed Prince of Persia from Shahnameh and one thousand and one nights book.
Jordan Mechner has never been in Iran but he said “it’s high on my travel wish list” and he wants to visit Isfahan and Shiraz because these cities remind him the Prince of Persia atmosphere. Mechner says that “Persia in the 9th century was huge, and included places that today are within Turkey, China, India, Uzbekistan, and many other countries”.
In 2001 Mechner who owns the POP’s IP started working with Ubisoft(famous french video game publisher). finally in 2003 they released “prince of Persia sands of time”
And that’s a new beginning to the series with 3D advanced graphics and a new story. In 2004 Ubisoft released “Prince of Persia warrior within” a sequel to the “Prince of Persia sands of time” . This is probably the best game in the series with amazing game-play and story.
In this version prince fights with zahak(Zahhāk or Zahāk is an evil figure in Persian mythology) in the island of time to escape from his destiny.
Finally, in 2005 “Prince of Persia the two thrones” was published by Ubisoft. This time prince came back from the Island of Time to Babylon with his love, Kaileena. Instead of the peace that he longs for, he finds his homeland ravaged by war and the kingdom turned against him. He finds himself in a situation where he must defeat the Vazir to save Persia.
