The rock formations in Qeshm Island are unlike any other natural attractions in Iran. The Island is home to a few astonishing valleys, canyons, and beaches. Valley of Stars is located about 30 minutes away from the Qeshm city center, next to the Borka Khalaf village. Continuing a soil surface road to the North of the village, would lead you to the 2 million years old Valley of Stars. The Valley of Stars is famous for its strange rock formations. Locals believe that a meteor, or as they call it a star, has crashed on the earth in this place and has formed all these odd rock shapes. This is why they call it the Valley of Stars. However the fact is that this place has formed because of erosion by wind and water over thousands of years.

In the valley, you may hear strange sounds caused by the wind blowing through the holes in the rocks. Local legends say the Valley of stars is a haunted place and the strange sounds you hear there, are made by the ghosts or jinns (an intelligent spirit of lower rank than the angels, able to appear in human and animal forms and to possess humans)!
In 2016, Mani Haghighi (director) created a film about the myth of this place. “a dragon arrives” is the story of 3 men researching about the legend of earthquakes occurring whenever someone is buried in a haunted cemetery in Qeshm Island. Most of the story takes place in the Valley of Stars.

The Valley of Stars is also a main site of the Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark. UNESCO describes a Geopark as

a UNESCO-designated area containing one or more sites of particular geological importance, intended to conserve the geological heritage and promote public awareness of it, typically through tourism

Hosting more than 25% of the native birds in Iran and housing various geological and natural phenomena has made Qeshm Island the first UNESCO Global Geopark of the Middle East.

The best time to visit Qeshm Island and the Valley of Stars, is from October to April. Thus, you can enjoy a nice weather as well as beautiful attractions. Make sure you visit the Valley of Stars in the afternoon so you won’t miss the glorious sunset views of the valley.
