Varzaneh Desert is located 100 km from Isfahan, spread in 1000 km2 of land area. We start our trip from Isfahan and it takes 1.5 hours to reach the desert. Getting to our destination, you’ll see a sight covered by clean sands. The mischievous wind has made the sandy hills into different shapes like linear, pyramidal or crescent.
As the desert is close to the Gavkhuni Pond, various plants have grown due to the wetness. You may also have the chance to watch different animals like rabbits, cats and hawks. Amazingly, you can take off your shoes and walk over the smooth clean sand. Touching the sand by your feet is a relaxing experience. Even in some parts, you’ll feel the sand’s coolness due to the underwater resources. If you stand on the eastern hills, you’ll have a scenic top view of the pond.

The speedy off-road driving over the rolling hills or camel riding would be so intriguing and joyful. For sandboarding, you just need to rent a board and slide down the hills. Riding motorcycles is available, just remember to wear the glasses. Trying paraglider and zipline are other options. If you want to observe one of the nature’s marvels, stay there till evening and watch the eye-opening sunset of the desert.
Later, we move to the Khara salt lake. The mass of salt have remained after the mineral water evaporation. Wonderfully, it’s formed a pure white landscape, where is actually the edible salt resource of the country. Watching the desert sky full of stars at night takes you to a fantasy and clears your mind as well. At the end of the day, we will move to a cozy guesthouse and have local food as dinner.
The desert is an intact region, where there are lots of wonders to discover. It’s a suitable sight to be released from the daily occupations and get a mental refreshment.

I am a Saudi who has been impressed, curious, and infatuated by Iranian culture(s), Iron Age history, Islamic & other religious histories, architecture, and geography for over 15 years. I wanted initially to continue my Persian language study at Dehkhoda Institute, however student visas take much longer than other visas to process, and I would likely miss my class during the processing time.
